Sodium Cocoate

Sodium Cocoate is saponified coconut oil.

What it does in soap
Sodium cocoate provides cleansing power and fluffy, quick-forming lather. It helps soap rinse cleanly and perform well even in hard water.

What it feels like on skin
On its own, sodium cocoate can feel drying. In a balanced formula, it contributes effective cleansing without stripping the skin.

Why it’s used
Coconut oil is valued for its ability to create lather and improve rinse-off. It strengthens a formula by adding cleansing ability and bubble production, which complements more conditioning fats and oils.

Common questions

  • Is coconut oil harsh in soap? At high percentages, it can be. Well-formulated soaps use it in moderation.

  • Does this mean the soap smells like coconut? No. The oil does not determine the scent of finished soap.

  • Is this vegan? Yes. Sodium cocoate is plant-derived.
